Solstice Magazine: The Boho Chic Issue
A fictional fashion and lifestyle magazine rooted in free-spirited elegance and trend-forward storytelling. This issue explores the Boho Chic aesthetic through layered collaging, earthy palettes, and curated visuals that celebrate individuality and ease. Flowing silhouettes, sun-drenched textures, and eclectic styling come together in a visual narrative that feels intentional and elevated.
I started with a style board to lay the foundation for the issue. It helped me define the Boho Chic direction early on and made the concept feel cohesive from the start. Having the colors, textures, and references in one place made it easier to guide the photography and design choices throughout the process. It was a visual anchor that kept everything aligned.
Creating the magazine cover design was one of the most crucial and fun parts of my process. I referenced my style board when choosing the typography, style of Solstice logo, and imagery that I wanted to include. I chose to use an image from a fashion company I admire, Into Gaia, which values the intersection of luxury and craftsmanship and being a slow fashion brand.
This design was inspired by the work of Joe Castro. I wanted to create a collage out of items and photos that matched the theme and creative direction of Solstice Magazine, while also providing a dynamic collage to accompany the table of contents page.
I created this collage that accompanies the Golden Girls cover story. It is meant to embody the purpose of the article itself and Solstice as a whole. The focus here is on what it takes to be a Golden Girl. I included some relevant women in pop culture to further push this theme, including Tyla, Carrie Bradshaw, Suki Waterhouse, Daisy Jones (of Daisy Jones and the Six) and 90’s Kate Moss.
This was the most challenging page for me to complete. Working in publication design was a challenge that I set out to face when I began this project, but it did not come without its struggles. However, I was able to create a design that intertwines my collage-style imagery and traditional magazine layout.
